Lulu

Arrived December 2025

05/07/2026 Lulu is now a New Yorker! She has adjusted so quickly it feels like she’s been here forever! She loves being near her people but loves being ON her people even more. While she’s polite about it, Lulu will want to know every detail of what you’re doing – no matter what you’re doing. Bathroom, cooking, gardening – Lulu is right next to you to observe.

If you’re looking for a 100+ lb lap dog, look no further. She’s also great with young kids and cats. Lulu is working on her leash manners but is doing really well with that.

Lulu is currently living with a toddler, special needs cat, dogs, chickens

Quick Stats
Personality Highlights
Great with all dogs so far
Seems to be good with young kids (currently lives with a 2.5 y/o boy)
Seems to be good with cats as long as the cat is ok with being gently tormented
Good with chickens. Chases for a second sometimes but otherwise ignores completely

Things To Be Aware Of
Showed slight food resource guarding the first night with one dog in the foster home. But hasn’t shown it again
Did NOT show any resource guarding towards humans
Does really, really well on a long lead. She’s thriving on a 20 ft lead. It avoids creating anymore trauma or aggressive behavior associated with the leash
Will only finish her kibble if water is added
Is not treat motivated AT ALL
She was slightly wary of new people at the vet but this was to be expected. She warmed up quickly and the staff gave her lots of praise and cuddles. Lulu will start her heartworm treatment at the end of May, her adoption is on hold until her treatment is completed.

04/14/2026 Foster Needed for Lulu — Heartworm Treatment & Recovery

Beautiful Lulu needs our help! This sweet, fun-loving 3-year-old Great Dane has tested heartworm positive and is beginning her treatment. To recover safely, she must remain calm and separate from other dogs until she’s fully cured — which means she urgently needs a new foster home where she can rest, heal, and be loved.

Lulu’s personality is pure joy: once she gets comfortable, she’s a playful, affectionate goofball who adores cuddles, toys, and keeping her people entertained with her mischievous charm. She’s gentle but spirited, and she thrives on connection and routine. In her previous foster spot, she enjoyed playing with her canine buddy and relaxing for cozy naps — but until her treatment is complete, she’ll need a quieter space all to herself.

Lulu at a glance:

Personality: affectionate, playful, and silly; may need a little time to warm up

Favorite things: toys, cuddles, car rides, and time with her people

Skills: crate trained, rides well, and working on manners and leash skills

Ideal foster home: calm environment, no other dogs for now, and a patient person ready to help her heal.

If you have room in your heart and home to help Lulu through her recovery, please reach out — she’s ready for her next chapter full of love and gentle care.

02/21/2026 Lulu has been thriving in her foster home for nearly two months and continues to show more of her sweet, playful personality every day. She is affectionate, people-oriented, and loves spending time with her people, whether she’s playing, lounging, or cuddling close. Lulu can be a little mischievous and enjoys shredding toys, but she also has a tender side that shines once she feels comfortable.

She shares a sweet bond with her foster mate, but she can also be adopted separately into a home with another dog and/or plenty of people to give her the attention and companionship she enjoys.

01/07/2026 Lulu is a sweet, affectionate girl who is still settling into all the recent changes in her life, but she is already beginning to show more of her playful, goofy personality. She can be a little reserved at first with new faces, but once she feels comfortable, her loving side shines through. Lulu is very people-oriented, enjoys attention, and loves being included in daily life. She also travels well, is crate trained, and settles nicely when needed.

Lulu has lived peacefully with several inside and outside cats, but she does have a high prey drive and would not be a good fit for a home with small dogs. She could do well in a structured home with clear, consistent expectations, continued leash work, and plenty of love and engagement. Because of her size, energy, and history, she would likely be best suited to an adult-only home or one with dog-experienced older children.

12/2025 Lulu and Duke  recently lost both their owner and their home. After so many changes in a short time, they are looking for a stable, loving family who can offer them security, structure, and plenty of attention.
