Adoption Application - 2025

Application to adopt or foster a Great Dane through MAGDRL. We appreciate your full honesty when filling out this form. Please note, we process applicants as quickly as possible but it may take several days until you hear back from one of our volunteers. Your patience is appreciated. Please note we must see a copy of the lease agreement or a signed document from the landlord/leasing agent which explicitly states dogs over 100 lbs are permitted prior to scheduling a home check.

If you rent, please attach a copy of your rental/lease agreement specifically stating that you may own a Great Dane or no weight/breed restrictions.
Do you plan to move within the next 3 years?
Are all interior stairs covered with slip resistant tread?
If your interior stairs are not covered, will you cover them before a home check?
Please note we will not schedule a home check until stairs have been covered.
List any water features on the property.
Include whether or not they are within the fenced area where dog will be allowed or separately fenced, unfenced, approximate size and depth, etc.

Fencing information

Do you have a permanent fence?
Chain link, stockade, welded wire, picket, etc
Does the fence enclose the entire yard?
Approximate the length and width and multiply together for square footage. Example: 50 feet long x 25 feet wide = 1,250 sf
Is the fenced area DIRECTLY attached to one or more entrances to the house?
Side door, patio door, garage, etc. List all that apply.
Are you planning to install a fence?
Please note: a home visit will not be scheduled until fencing is installed, unless you are applying for a fencing exception.

Please note that fencing exceptions are subject to board approval, and typically require adoption of a senior dane 5 years or older.
If applying for a fencing exception, please include details here describing your circumstances (why you cannot or will not install a fence), lifestyle, previous dog ownership and how you plan on safely exercising and managing your Great Dane without chaining them or allowing them off lead.

Please include as much detail as possible about what hours each adult works outside of the house of if some/all members work from home (full time/part time etc). This helps us evaluate the amount of time dogs will be left unattended in the home.

This estimate should factor in food, routine health care such as annual check up, vaccinations, preventatives, supplies and treats, walking/day care services if required, etc
