Happy Tails for Wilbur 

Wilbur’s journey has officially found its happy ending — he has been adopted! 

Wilbur’s story began under heartbreaking circumstances. He was found alongside another Great Dane, Charlotte, at a pig farm after being dumped in a rural area. When Wilbur first came into care, he was severely underweight, weak, and understandably frightened of the world around him. Even in his fear, his gentle nature shined through, and it was clear he just needed time, patience, and love to heal.

Thanks to the dedication of the animal welfare shelter and later his foster family, Wilbur slowly began to relax and trust again. With proper care, nutrition, and stability, his strength returned — and so did his confidence. Watching him transform from a scared, fragile boy into a happy, playful dog ready to embrace a new life has been incredibly rewarding.

We are thrilled to share that Wilbur has been adopted by James and Cindy, a wonderful family who immediately saw how special he is. Wilbur reminded them so much of their previous Great Dane — right down to the spots on his feet — that it felt like fate. He will enjoy life with a feline sibling and an elderly canine companion, and he’ll even get to join Cindy at the office from time to time. They fell in love with his sweet personality and the enormous amount of love he has to give.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Dayna in VA for helping match Wilbur with the perfect adopters, and to Erin and James, along with their daughters Adeline and Raelyn, for opening their home and hearts to Wilbur and helping him prepare for this next chapter. Also, thanks to Jef and Beth who provided a safe transport from the shelter to his foster home.

Wilbur’s story is a powerful reminder of what compassion, teamwork, and patience can accomplish. From a frightened dog found with nothing, to a cherished family member — this is why we do what we do.

🐾 Meet Wilbur – The World’s Biggest Lap Dog! 🐾

At just 1.5–2 years old, Wilbur is a giant goofball who thinks he’s pocket-sized! His favorite place? Right in your lap… all 100+ pounds of him.

This sweet, playful Great Dane loves kids, adores other pups (especially energetic playmates!), and has never met a snuggle he didn’t like.

He’s got great manners—knows sit, stay, and walks nicely on leash—but still wants plenty of toys to keep his big brain and busy mouth happy.

Loud noises like fireworks can make him nervous, so a calm home will help this big softie feel safe.

Wilbur’s dream family? One that loves big dogs, big laughs, and bigger cuddles… and doesn’t mind sharing the couch.
