Some dogs enter rescue needing a home. Others need a second chance. Ryder needed both—and he gave his rescuers a reminder of just how resilient and loving Great Danes can be.

Ryder’s story began in heartbreaking conditions. He and another Great Dane were confined together in a crate far too small for two dogs and left without food for long stretches. Fear or even aggression would have been understandable. But Ryder chose kindness instead, staying close to his fellow Dane and offering comfort when it mattered most.

When Ryder came into rescue, his past hadn’t defined him. He quickly adjusted to life in a home, learned to trust again, and embraced all the good things every dog deserves—goofy playtime, toy parades, and serious cuddles with his humans.

Then he met Crystal and her family. Already home to Frankie, a three-year-old Pug, and two cats, they had been watching for the right Great Dane. When Ryder met Frankie, he seemed to understand immediately: this little girl needed things done at her level. Instead of towering over her, Ryder laid himself down so Frankie could meet him comfortably and safely.

On September 5, 2026, Ryder officially became part of their family. From sharing a tiny crate and wondering about his next meal, he now has a home, a little sister named Frankie, and all the love he could ever want.

Ryder’s journey is proof that a difficult beginning doesn’t have to determine the ending. He could have carried the scars of his past in countless ways. Instead, he carried forward his sweetness, his trust, and his instinct to care for others.

Now, it’s his turn to be cared for.

07/30/2026 Meet Ryder! 

This handsome harlequin boy is about 2 years old and looking for his forever home, and he comes with a whole lot of personality packed into that big frame!

The Basics:
Ryder is a total goofball with a soft, cuddly side, he’s just as happy draped across your lap (yes, all of him) as he is out on an adventure. He’s a great listener and responds well to training, making him a joy to work with. He’s also easy going, crate trained, and walks well on a leash, a great combination for a dog his size!

A True People-Dog:
More than anything, Ryder just wants to be with his people. He loves his humans deeply and thrives on companionship, following you from room to room, leaning in for love, and soaking up every bit of attention he can get. He wants to be part of the family and right in the middle of everything.

Athletic & Active:
Don’t let the couch-potato moments fool you, this guy is seriously athletic and can clear a 4-foot fence without breaking a stride.

Important to Know:
Ryder is great with cats and other small animals, he’s gentle and easy-going with his housemates! He does love a good backyard adventure, and when he’s out playing he’ll happily chase after the neighborhood squirrels and chipmunks, just part of his fun-loving, playful nature.

Quirky Habit We Love:
He’s got a thing for carrying his toys around the house, you’ll often find him wandering from room to room with a favorite toy in his mouth, just keeping himself company.
