Remington

Adopted April 2026

04/14/2026 Remington’s story isn’t a quick one. It’s the kind that unfolds slowly—through patience, commitment, and a kind of love that refuses to give up. And because of that, his happily-ever-after means just a little bit more.

When Remington first came into rescue through our Pennsylvania chapter, he didn’t look like the kind of dog you’d immediately recognize as “someone’s perfect companion.” He was painfully thin, his coat was dirty and dull, and his body told a story of neglect. He had a cherry eye that needed attention, growths that needed to be evaluated, and thickened, calloused areas on the tops of his paws—likely from spending far too much time on hard surfaces. Even his smell hinted at how long it had been since someone truly cared for his well-being.

We were told he lived indoors, but only until it became inconvenient—then he was placed outside in a chain-link kennel for extended periods. Somewhere along the way, the simple comforts of consistency, care, and affection had been missing.

But even then, Remington had something special. And thanks to Sara and the incredible Pennsylvania team, that spark didn’t go unnoticed. They made sure his story was seen. They made sure he was seen. And because of that, everything changed.

Enter Chris and Duane.

The moment they saw Remington’s picture, something clicked. It wasn’t hesitation or uncertainty—it was immediate. Love at first sight. They didn’t see the condition he was in; they saw the dog he could be. And without delay, they stepped forward to foster-to-adopt, opening their home—and their hearts—to a dog who needed both more than anything.

From that moment on, Remington’s world began to transform.

There were vet visits—many of them. There were treatments, evaluations, and the steady work of restoring his health. But beyond the medical care, there was something even more powerful happening: he was being loved. Constantly. Intentionally. Unconditionally.

Chris and Duane didn’t just care for Remington—they celebrated him. They shared updates, pictures, and milestones, allowing all of us to witness the incredible journey firsthand. And little by little, the dog we see today began to emerge.

The once frail, uncertain dog has blossomed into something truly remarkable.

Remington is hilarious. That’s one of the first things Duane will tell you. He’s full of personality, full of joy, and full of life. And perhaps most surprising of all—he’s incredibly athletic. Not your typical laid-back Great Dane, Remington prances and bounds like a deer, moving with a speed and agility that catches everyone off guard. He’s quick, playful, and completely in his element.

And in true Dane fashion… he’s still figuring a few things out. Like how to drink water without turning it into a full production—messy, drooly, and absolutely endearing.

Chris and Duane often joke that in nearly 27 years together, they’ve never had a “normal” animal. Horses, dogs, chickens—you name it—each one has come with an outsized, unforgettable personality. Whether it’s something they lovingly bring out in them or something they’re simply meant to find, one thing is certain: they have a special place in their hearts for the ones who are just a little bit different… the “touched” ones. And Remington fits right in.

Today, that journey came full circle.

Chris and Duane made it official—they adopted Remington.

Now, instead of a kennel, he has a big yard to run in. Instead of uncertainty, he has security. Instead of waiting, he has a family that is completely, wholeheartedly his.

Remington’s story is one of transformation—not just physically, but emotionally. It’s a reminder of what’s possible when the right people step in at the right time. From the Pennsylvania team who first advocated for him, to the journey that brought him across West Virginia, to the home where he was finally given the life he always deserved—every step mattered.

And now, he’s exactly where he was meant to be.

01/06/2026 Remington — Professional Goof, Part‑Time Shadow, Full‑Time Heartthrob

Remington is a 1.5‑year‑old blue merle Great Dane who looks like a supermodel but acts like a cartoon character. At ~120 lbs, he’s basically a living weighted blanket with legs — and he will follow you everywhere like it’s his full‑time job.

He’s playful, social, and convinced every human he meets is his new best friend. He loves dog buddies too, especially the ones who enjoy a good zoomie session. Toys? Treats? He’s chill about it all. Chickens? …Let’s just say he finds them very intriguing.

Remington is still learning the basics, but he’s eager, sweet, and soaking up structure like a sponge with giant floppy ears. He’s blossoming fast and ready to keep growing with a family who loves a goofy, affectionate, people‑oriented Dane.

Remington would love a home that:
  • Enjoys an affectionate, people-oriented Great Dane
  • Can provide daily companionship, exercise, and basic training
  • Appreciates a dog who is still very much in his “young and goofy” phase
  • Does not have free-roaming poultry (he has shown interest in chickens
If you want a loyal sidekick who brings joy, comedy, and 120 pounds of love into your life, Remington is your guy
