06/02/2029 Purdy’s Adoption Story: A New Beginning for a Little Black Dane and a Family with Big Love to Give
When Purdy arrived in MAGDRL’s care at just eight weeks old, she was a tiny black bundle of curiosity and clumsy puppy paws. She had come from another rescue that knew she would thrive best with a Dane‑specific group — and they were right. From the moment she landed in our West Virginia chapter, Purdy made it clear she was ready for a family of her own and a future filled with adventure.
What none of us knew yet was that her perfect match was already out there — a family still healing from the loss of their beloved Great Dane, Scotch.
The Dorety’s had spent months navigating the quiet that follows losing a giant‑breed companion. In their adoption application, Mrs. Dorety wrote that she missed everything about life with a Dane — the sound of giant paws scrambling across the floor, the joyful chaos around the water bowl, the drool on the walls, the long walks, the cuddles, and the unmistakable presence only a Dane can bring.
She said, “While the goal is certainly not to replace her — nothing ever could — I just feel like I still have so much love to give.” That love was waiting for the right dog. And that dog was Purdy.
When the family arrived to meet her, it didn’t take long for the connection to spark. Mrs. Dorety admitted she had been missing “puppy kisses and puppy bellies,” and Purdy was more than happy to supply both. Mr. Dorety knelt down and Purdy climbed right into his lap as if she had been practicing for this moment. Their daughter was instantly smitten, and even their son — the self‑proclaimed reluctant pooper‑scooper — couldn’t hide his smile when Purdy bounced over to him.
The family had recently lost Scotch, and while grief still lived in their hearts, Purdy brought something gentle and hopeful into the room. It felt like the beginning of a new chapter — not replacing the past, but honoring it.
They didn’t stay long; excitement had them eager to get on the road and start their life with her. Before they left, they shared the name they had chosen: Stella — a name full of brightness, perfectly suited for a puppy who lights up every space she enters.
Stella is likely sound asleep, cuddled and snuggled in warm arms for the nearly four hour return trip home. She has no idea that she is about to enter her furever home, surrounded by a family who understands Danes deeply — the quirks, the needs, the humor, the responsibility, and the enormous love that comes with raising a giant‑breed dog. She has big paws to grow into, a family ready to guide her, and a future filled with joy.
For the Dorety’s, Stella isn’t a replacement for Scotch — she’s a continuation of the love they’ve always had for this extraordinary breed. And for Stella, she has found exactly what every rescue puppy deserves: a family who sees her not just as a dog, but as a cherished new member of their story.
Welcome home, Stella. Your new life has just begun.
05/21/2026 Meet Purdy, a delightful 10-week-old Great Dane/Dalmatian mix who already knows how to work a room! Bright-eyed and curious, she picks things up quickly — which means she thrives with supervision and consistent training (a bored Purdy is a creative Purdy). She’s already crate and potty trained and making great strides on the leash. After burning through her energy in play, she settles in beautifully for long, peaceful naps. Purdy is an enthusiastic snacker, a dedicated chewer, and a generous giver of face licks. Because she’s only 10 weeks old, her full personality is still taking shape — but she’s already showing us she’s smart, loving, and ready to grow into someone’s perfect companion.
