07/20/2026 Maggie’s Story

Maggie’s story doesn’t start with a home — it starts with survival.

She was spotted in a Facebook video, wandering alone along a rural Kentucky road, thin and slipping in and out of the woods. No collar, no owner, just another young Dane mix left to fend for herself. Volunteers Barbara and Emily refused to look away. After hours of searching, Barbara finally spotted a small black head peeking from a ditch. Catching her took even longer.

At just 18 months old, Maggie had already been bought, rehomed multiple times, and dumped twice. Her tail and dewclaws were crudely removed, and she had likely been surviving on her own for weeks through harsh weather. By the time she was found, she was exhausted, underweight, and worn down.

Thanks to the dedication of her rescuers and a supportive community, Maggie received the medical care she needed and began to heal. She eventually made her way to a MAGDRL foster home, where she’s finally learning what safety and consistency feel like.

And despite everything, Maggie is incredibly easy to love. She’s gentle, rides well, walks nicely on leash, and takes treats softly. She’s curious but respectful with cats and shows no resource guarding. She even spent her first night in a home sleeping peacefully and waiting until morning to go outside.

Maggie is still building confidence, especially when left alone, and will need patience as she learns that she’s truly safe. But with time and understanding, she will continue to blossom.

Now she’s ready for her forever home — one that will give her the stability she’s never had and the love she’s always deserved.

If you’re ready to show Maggie that home is forever, she’s ready to meet you.
