Difficult Decision

Surrendering a dog is one of the hardest decisions a pet owner can face. It often comes after exhausting every option—whether due to financial hardship, personal health, the dog’s behavioral or medical challenges, or housing issues. While difficult, it can also be a selfless act – allowing the dog to have a safe, happy, and full life.

If you decide it’s time to surrender your dane, please prepare in the following ways:

Notice: If your dog has bitten even once, do not put other innocent people at risk by withholding that information.  Please be honest about any biting or aggressive behaviors, so that we can safely evaluate the Dane.

If you are financially able, we appreciate a donation to help cover costs associated with rehoming your Dane (including any vet care)

Please note: We do not have a facility — we have foster homes and volunteers who have other responsibilities, many with full-time jobs and families of their own. This means that we cannot take your Dane immediately. You may have to maintain responsibility for your dog for several days/weeks/months until we can arrange housing.
