Deacon 

05/12/2026 When Deacon first arrived at MAGDRL, he was a gentle, soft-eyed boy still waiting for his perfect place to land. At just under six years old, he had already lived a full life—but his best chapter was still ahead.

That chapter began with Tim and Beth.

Experienced Great Dane owners and dedicated MAGDRL volunteers, Tim and Beth welcomed Deacon as a foster, fully intending to stick to their plan: foster, not adopt. In fact, they had written exactly that on their application. But Deacon had other ideas.

From the moment he arrived, he bonded quickly and completely. Within just a couple of days, it was clear—Deacon had chosen his people, and they were falling just as hard.

He fit seamlessly into their home, earning a spot in bed alongside Koda, charming everyone he met, and settling into life with four dogs, one cat, and two daughters who adored him. Tim described him as “a male version of Meg”—friendly, gentle, and eager to please.

Even as they tried to stay practical, their hearts knew the truth.

Deacon wasn’t going anywhere.

Today, he’s exactly where he was meant to be—safe, loved, and part of a family who couldn’t imagine life without him. Tim and Beth didn’t just foster Deacon—they listened to him.

And he told them, “I’m home.”

MAGDRL is incredibly grateful for the love they give to every dog lucky enough to cross their path. Thanks to them, Deacon’s forever is everything it should be.

03/18/2026 Meet Deacon

Deacon’s journey to rescue is both tender and heartbreaking. He and his housemate, River, were lovingly surrendered by their owner—recently diagnosed with early-onset dementia and coping with the loss of his wife—made the difficult decision to surrender them. While Deacon and River aren’t bonded, we know how much it would mean for them to stay together, and we’d love to see them find a forever home as a pair.

Deacon is a handsome, 5‑year‑old Great Dane with a calm, laid‑back personality that wins over everyone he meets. He enjoys nothing more than lounging near his people, soaking up affection, and quietly being part of whatever’s happening at home. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who’ll lean in for pets, offer gentle cuddles, and always be by your side, Deacon is your guy.

This sweet boy gets along well with other dogs, cats, and even chickens—his easygoing temperament makes him a great fit for many different households. He’s polite, well‑mannered, and eager to please. Like most tall Danes, he occasionally explores those tempting countertops, but he listens immediately when corrected and continues to prove how smart and responsive he is.
Deacon is truly the definition of a gentle giant. He’s ready to bring comfort, love, and quiet joy to a new family—and if that family has room for his friend River too, that would make this big boy’s heart even fuller.
