Deacon’s journey to rescue is both tender and heartbreaking. He and his housemate, River, were lovingly surrendered by their owner—recently diagnosed with early-onset dementia and coping with the loss of his wife—made the difficult decision to surrender them. While Deacon and River aren’t bonded, we know how much it would mean for them to stay together, and we’d love to see them find a forever home as a pair.

Deacon is a handsome, 5‑year‑old Great Dane with a calm, laid‑back personality that wins over everyone he meets. He enjoys nothing more than lounging near his people, soaking up affection, and quietly being part of whatever’s happening at home. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who’ll lean in for pets, offer gentle cuddles, and always be by your side, Deacon is your guy.

This sweet boy gets along well with other dogs, cats, and even chickens—his easygoing temperament makes him a great fit for many different households. He’s polite, well‑mannered, and eager to please. Like most tall Danes, he occasionally explores those tempting countertops, but he listens immediately when corrected and continues to prove how smart and responsive he is.
Deacon is truly the definition of a gentle giant. He’s ready to bring comfort, love, and quiet joy to a new family—and if that family has room for his friend River too, that would make this big boy’s heart even fuller.
