Rudy is a bouncy, exuberant boy with a loving soul and lots of affection to give! An experienced large breed family (middle schooler teens and up) would be a great match for Rudy given his size and goofball play style. Rudy is loyal, eager to please and affectionate – while he would love to be your only pet to have all your attention to himself (wouldn’t we all!), with patience he accepts other dogs.
Rudy grew up with a young family and was surrendered due to small children/new babies arriving and the family not having time for this sensitive companion. Unfortunately, he wasn’t socialized with non-family members nor other animals and has been the priority with me. His current home was intended to be a “foster fail” … having him while continuing to foster dogs. Despite best efforts to socialize with foster dogs, Rudy does not like frequent new dogs visiting his pad. Rudy gets along great with the existing elderly home dog (is very gentle) and the neighborhood dogs walking by, but struggles with dogs that are new to the home (foster dogs typically arrive with anxious energy and by the time new dog calms down, they are adopted- not ideal for Rudy, who tends to amplify the energy in the room).
Rudy is a handsome, affectionate Great Dane who is energetic & playful yet wants to be your lap dog at the same time- a true velcro dog! When excited, this 155# puppy bounces around with joy (literally off all four paws at a time!). Rudy is cautious with just about anything new and needs time to warm up to the unfamiliar, but once he does, is eager to call you a friend. Relative to the family’s four-legged family members, Rudy bonded with foster brother Schnoodle from the beginning. Rudy’s life is a constant tug of war between curiosity and ‘fear’ (even a new toy in the middle of the room)… he walks around it, sniffs the ground around, then noses touches (maybe licks), then all is good- is really quite hilarious to watch. Rudy is motivated to be with his family, responds to affection and treats. He needs to see his hooman(s) interact with visitors before his guard drops (not a bad trait!). His bouncy personality is sure to endear himself into your heart.
Rudy loves to go for daily walks, chasing his ball on a rope, play fetch with his woobies, running zoomies in his fenced backyard and adores snuggling on the sofa with his head on your lap. He wants to play with his foster brother but a 15yo 10# Schnoodle is no playmate, so Rudy will play catch with himself using his stuffed toys. Rudy loves his stuffed ‘woobies,’ snuggling against his ‘person’ and has a slow-motion lean-in nose that touches down to an art form.
Rudy (3.5yo) was neutered and had gastropexy (stomach tacked) when he arrived at his current home. This dignified Great Dane has a sensitive stomach (managed well with probiotics) and sensitive skin (dandruff is managed well with daily fish oil and monthly baths).
Rudy loves to turn heads on his daily walk so if you’re looking for someone to take walks with, Rudy’s your boy. If walks aren’t possible, a home with a fenced backyard to stretch his long legs would be a dream come true for this playful giant to zoom around. People passing by will always attract Rudy to announce he sees them 😉 and while he’ll bounce around the fence line (even standing on rear legs), he never attempts to jump the fence or barks ugly. He amplifies the energy in the room, so a high energy household will have a 150# bouncing Rudy while my calmer home simply has Rudy following me around and getting excited when I go towards the leash and the backyard.
Handsome Rudy is house trained, has leash manners, enjoys his crate for meals (and naps), has excellent recall and knows commands to sit, no, off and lay down (working on stay and impulse control). He likes to learn new tricks when he’s rewarded with a tasty treat or words of affection. Rudy is a-ok with his basket muzzle (just in case there’s a medical emergency). He’d love to continue to work on his socialization to become the best pet he can be! Rudy will come with his 54” crate, probiotics and his woobies <3. Rudy is a loyal & lovable gentle giant goofball- if you think you have the perfect family home for Rudy, please contact me- I’d love to find out more about you!!
