Board of Directors - Volunteers
Nikki Russell
Location: Northern VA
Rescue Experience:I’ve had Great Danes for about 10 years and I LOVE the breed! After I adopted my first Dane, I started volunteering and then became a Coordinator for the Northern Virginia area in 2005. I’ve also been on the board for 4 years and have gained a lot of experience with volunteers, adopters and foster homes. In addition to match making for our adaptors, I also coordinate all the home visits and help bring in Danes and help them find new homes. I myself, foster failed in January 2006 after fostering 2 puppy siblings, so I understand that aspect of rescue as well. One of my jobs as a coordinator and a volunteer is to educate the public about Danes. I do that by attending many local events and speaking with people about rescue and encouraging them to adopt or volunteer. Being a coordinator for MAGDRL is the best full time job I’ve never been paid for!!!
Special Skills: Graphic Artist, attention to details, marketing and organization skills, website development and extensive computer skills, but most importantly, owner of 5 beautiful Great Danes!
Motto:Animals can’t speak for themselves, so we have to be their advocates and stand up for them. I always knew I would help animals in one way or another, but didn’t know my true calling until Great Danes and the rescue found me. “Dogs aren’t our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” ~Roger Caras
Vision for MAGDRL: My main vision for this position is to implement a program that will bring our volunteer and accounting records together for easier access for our coordinators and board members. This is not an easy thing for us to do. Not only would we have to bear the initial cost, but transferring all the records will be very time consuming as well. But it would allow us to centralize our volunteer database and have better records for our volunteers and members.
