Beth Grooms
July 2009 Elections - Running for Fundraising & Grants Director
Location: NC
Rescue Experience: I became an active MAGDRL Volunteer in 2001 after the adoption of my first rescue Dane, Elka. Since that time I have become a multiple foster failure. I have applied for multiple grants and have successfully had two grants funded for MAGDRL which have brought in over $11500.00 to the rescue. I have spent my time as a kennel volunteer in Western North Carolina. I also check and respond to the Eastern NC Dane Line and the Phone Line and place the NC dogs onto Petfinder.com. I perform temperament testing for incoming dogs, conduct home visits and assist with dog transports. I have recently joined the Matchmaking team and help our fosters with any dog related issues. In addition, I help coordinate and staff volunteer events in North Carolina in which MAGDRL has a vendor booth such as Great Grapes, Paw Jam and the NC Azalea Festival. As a North Carolina team member, I have been instrumental in implementing new fundraising ideas at MAGDRL events which have resulted in collecting more money than ever before from Eastern North Carolina for our Great Danes. I currently have seven dogs, four of which came from MAGDRL and all of which are rescues.
Special Skills: I am a detailed-oriented person with a working knowledge of Quick Books, Excel, Power Point, Word, Works, Publisher and Photoshop. I am a small business owner and I monitor the finances of my husband’s business as well. I enjoy educating people on dog behavior and training. I work tirelessly on trying to educate the public about the plight of our beloved Great Danes. I love to photograph the MAGDRL dogs and write their biographies in order to get them onto multiple websites to help get them adopted. I promote MAGDRL at all opportunities in order to attract more volunteers, foster homes and adopters. I have arranged special fundraisers for Great Danes in need of urgent medical treatment. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Wake Forest University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Motto:Animals have so much to teach us if we only take the time to listen.
Vision for MAGDRL: My vision for MAGDRL is to encourage and support the growth of our volunteer base so that we can expand our fundraising efforts which will, in turn, help more Great Danes. I also envision MAGDRL applying for and receiving more grant monies which can assist more Great Danes. In addition, I would like to continue to increase the public awareness of MAGDRL and promote proper pet ownership and responsible breeding practices.
